Angela Liu
Angela Liu born in Beijing and currently based in Hong Kong. A member of Xiang Gang Mei Xie, The 4-D Art Club, Hong Kong Modern Ink Painting Society, Art of Nature Int’l, and ARTLINKART.
Over the years, she has dedicated herself to creating Chinese ink paintings. In the earlier years when she studied the traditional styles at the University of Hong Kong, her artworks referenced Li Cheng, Fan Kuan, and Guo Xi, laying a strong foundation for her later career in art while practising her patience. She was then apprenticed to some of the great artists including Lam Tian Xing, Chan Shing Kau, and Fung Wing-kee, integrating the calligraphy, the realist gongbi technique and the expressive xieyi style into her contemporary ink paintings. Her flora and fauna are vivid and alive; her landscapes are magnificent with variations in outlining that reflect the essence of the Five Dynasties; her portraits feature rich compositions and vibrant expressions, referencing the styles from the Ming period.
The artworks are diverse, not restricted to any style. The nature and the people that she depicts are often soft and elegant. In a perfect blend of the traditional and the contemporary, what she sees and thinks becomes what she paints.
