Known as Kirie in Japanese (translated as “cut picture”), the traditional art form involves cutting intricate forms from a single sheet of paper and then contrasting it against a background to reveal the design. Paper cutting art requires tremendous patience, a steady hand and a surgical precision.
This is a unique and original piece carefully hand-cut, out of black and red sheets of paper. This artwork is not strictly silhouette-like. The artist preserved the image essence by playing with shadows and negative spaces creating blandness and natural emotionality.
