Bela Branquinho
Bela Branquinho is mostly interested in painting as a way to convey sensations. The creative process is purely intuitive and visceral. The blank canvas is slowly filled in, back and forth, as if it was the act of verbally telling a story. The work starts timidly and unsurely, invariably in shades of blue, grey, white and green, and starts affirming itself as it goes forward. Sometimes halfway through the work transforms itself, following paths that were completely unexpected at the beginning of the creative process. And then one day the painting gains autonomy and declares itself finished. We look at it and feel like it doesn't belong to us anymore, that the journey has ended. Painting is, for the artist, an act of constant discovery and fascination.
