Gina Parr
Gina Parr is a full-time artist now living and working in Devon and the East End of London.
“My practice reflects the fundamental need to express the bittersweet nature of the human condition through abstracted scape and form. I find inspiration not only from my core connection to my Devon UK birthplace and other experienced scape and form, but also from the extreme absence of space as an only child living with a mother who was a hoarder, countered by fishing with my father in the beautiful open Devon seascape and the subsequent memories, relationships, darkness and light and loss and vulnerability. I yearn for an order over chaos, an ordering and reordering of the sensate and liminal space I can create [...] As much is taken away from the painting as is added, with constant building and washing of the canvas, aiming to invoke an atmosphere drawn from both the process and the initial emotional trigger. My work is metaphorical, ambiguous, chimerical, organic and elemental.”
