Currently based in Berlin, Junyi Lu is an artist who received a BFA degree with honours at Maryland Institute College of Art. Her practice specializes in paintings with different media to create absurd scenes that underlie subtle responses, which convey a philosophical view on one’s existence in the universe, in relation to both the society and nature. Her paintings often contain figures with ambiguous gender and minimal body features in fictional scenes where components are attached with symbolic meanings to create narratives. Her works have been exhibited in Untitled Space, Shanghai, SPUR gallery and Julian Allen Illustration Gallery in Baltimore. Her short indie comics have been exhibited in abC Art Book Fair in China 2019, Thanksgiving art book fair in Fou Gallery in New York, and Small Press Expo 2018 book fair in Washington D.C., USA.
