Zil Hoque
Born in India, Zil Hoque moved to the UK at very young age. In all his work there is always a reference of Hispanic ideals and culture.
“The Spanish thing with me is something I can’t explain other than to say that it’s a mystical enigma.”
He has always had this affinity towards the peninsular. Subjects range from the Spanish bull, horses to the colourful world of flamenco. His affinity towards the medium of oil paint is seen in a strong gestural use of the brush mark and paint manipulation.
Considering all the Spanish references, Zil Hoque is a passionate about light - the one force that ties all his work and gives the paintings a strong sense of motion and drama.
