Mixed media collage on panel
121.9 x 243.8 cm / 48.0 x 96.0 in
Executed in 2015
Betula was inspired by the lines and motif of a birch tree. The artist named the artwork after the birch species genus Betula (/ˈbɛtjʊlə/). It was created with several individual pieces of watercolour paper. Each section of paper was treated with a different method including graphite/ink drawing in combination with collage of different materials. Some sections were burned with fireworks and gunpowder.
The overall colour is black, warm white, parchment, and warm yellow. The end result is a harmonious and balanced composition.
