Having spent part of her childhood in Pompeii makes the artist feel connected in a special way to the archaeological sites of Campania and when the artist visited the ruins of Herculaneum, in the company of her father, who worked with the Herculaneum Conservation Project, the artist felt a strong need to dedicate a cycle to this city. The result was these acrylic on linen or cotton canvases where the raw, unpainted canvas revealed the profile of the ancient buildings, while the modern ones were depicted by lines and colours in the aim to investigate the relationship between ancient and modern times - so crucial in Italy - and whether and how the ties survive over the centuries.
