The painting belongs to a series of portraits Wolff painted under the title "Walden Wall of Fame". The series was created for the exhibition "Walden" in which Wolff dealt with her and our relationship to nature and the pictures we make of nature.
This portrait shows the American politician George Shiras III, who made a name for himself as a photographer in the middle of the 20th century after his political career. He made the first night shots of wild animals and invented the predecessors of today's photo trap for this purpose. By observing and photographing nature, he changed from a hunter to a conservationist.
