I wanted to live deep (Thoreau)
The picture belongs to a series of portraits Wolff painted under the title "Walden Wall of Fame". The series was created for the exhibition "Walden" in which Wolff dealt with her and our relationship with nature and the images we make of nature.
The title of the exhibition was borrowed from the book of the same name by Henry David Thoreau and therefore his portrait could not be missing, of course. Wolff alludes to the renaissance of the longing for nature in times of globalization, extinction of species, and climate crisis, which Thoreau could not possibly but nevertheless foreseen.
