Plastomorphie „Re AZ-52“
In her three-dimensional wall objects - the so-called plastomorphies – Mara Ruehl expands her colour field works by the third dimension.
Her constant aim to enliven the rigid and static picture "panel" led her to develop paintings with the addition of plastic elements and to build these colored reliefs. The arrangement of identical bodies following a comprehensible system forms geometrical patterns, which are more than a "concrete" end in itself. The calculated use of wooden plates or plastic cubes of more or less the same shape, usually stuck on in rows, rather causes an additional rhythmization of the painting surface. In these works the form and its optical change through the influence of light, shadow and of course the colour is in the foreground.
In contrast to her paintings, whose "movements of the coloured surfaces" take place without any action on the part of the viewer, in her plastomorphies his interaction is indispensable. Mara Ruehl does not use all of this to create abstract ornaments or pleasing decorations. In her studio she creates invitations to original visual experiences.
