This is the first canvas in my Tiktaalik series. I adore painting landscapes; they elicit a sensation in me of age-old permanence overlaid with the understanding that they are continually changing and evolving. The Tiktaalik was one of the first types of fish to emerge from the water and may well have been our first land-living ancestor. The oldest fossils ever found of land-based animal tracks were coincidentally found in the South West corner of my native Poland.
It is protected from dust and UV light by a thin layer of varnish. The sides are painted black, giving this artwork a highly contemporary finish.
