Some people wonder where the artist gets his ideas. He got the idea for this painting while out on a winter walk in our neighborhood. He was looking at all of the bare trees - nothing but branches - and he imagined how much prettier they would look if they were topped off by roses. He did a little investigating and found there is no such thing as a tree of red roses. In the midst of winter, he decided to put the tree on a snow covered hill with a simple blue sky to make the roses pop. The artist's mother always loved roses and she used to tell him, "Someday, you're going to be an artist." This painting is dedicated to her. It's a simple painting with not much going on. But the more than 250 roses on the tree each had to be individually painted.
