Walking Past Roses, June
It is early summer here in Kent, and the artist is working outside to the accompaniment of birdsong. This canvas is an expression of the fleeting beauty of roses in her garden, she sees them every day when they are in season, and the memory of them, and of summer resonates with her throughout the seasons.
Building up many layers of colours, using top quality Golden paints and spattering, using brushes, rags and palette knives to create a rich and textured surface with tonal depth is her aim. Her canvas is worked both on the ground and on an easel - this allows her to add layers of watercolor like painting without it all dripping to the bottom the canvas! When on the easel in the last stages, she is able to stand back and look, she spends more time looking than working at this stage and she tries to assess balance, colour and overall feel.
